|
Welcome to the Elder Conservatorium of MusicFrom the DirectorWelcome to the web site of the Elder Conservatorium of Music. The following pages will give you a sense of the programs that we offer, the activities of performance and scholarship in which we are engaged and the core values that underpin all that we do. As one of Australia’s oldest and most distinguished tertiary music schools, the Elder Conservatorium plays a leading role in the country’s musical landscape. We have close links with other educational and professional bodies within South Australia and across the nation, maintaining strong connections also with important institutions in the UK, USA, Canada, Asia and Europe. Our graduates hold positions of national and international influence as performers, composers, educators, scholars and administrators. The range of programs that we offer is unique within the Australian Higher Education context. Our integrated raft of certificates, diplomas, degrees and postgraduate qualifications provides opportunities for multiple entry and exit points, enabling us to meet the needs and aspirations of a wide variety of students. With specialisations in performance (classical, jazz), composition, music education, music technology and musicology, there are many possible pathways that can be followed. We also offer general interest music courses that can be taken by students enrolled in other degree programs within the University. In accordance with our conservatorium mission, we are committed to providing an environment in which students can achieve the skills and understandings necessary for professional employment. Equally importantly, we place great value upon adaptability, flexibility and independence. These qualities are essential to the development of a successful career, whether in the field of music or beyond. They lead to breadth and depth of experience, enabling graduates to recognise and grasp the opportunities that come their way and to make genuine choices about their future. The Elder Conservatorium is fully committed to the interests of its students and to its place within the wider artistic and educational environment. Students, family members, teachers, administrative staff, concert goers, sponsors and supporters all have important roles to play. We welcome you to this unique and vibrant community of musicians.
